Seattle's Public Market, (aka "The Pike Place Market") started almost 100 years ago.
Located two blocks from downtown Seattle's waterfront.
This market offers a huge array of fresh local produce, hand-made items, and eateries.
The main entrance is at 1st and Pike. A marvelous family excursion!
Visitors to the market enjoy a multitude of sights, sounds and the savory smells of fresh bread, real spices, and other wonderful scents as they explore a fascinating maze of hallways, lined with shops and booths.
At the market, you'll find a variety of cozy cafes and upscale restaurants, all of which are well-liked by the locals. Also, there are numerous snack-food offerings (with an international flair) ...and some talented street performers.
Some of the products that can be found in the Public Market include jewelry, leather goods, wooden-toys (often hand-crafted), antiques, clothing, magicians' supplies, and a huge array of fresh produce.
The Pike Place Seafood Co., in the Public Market, is famous for the lively show its employees put on when someone buys a salmon. They shout in unison while throwing the fish to each other.
Seattle residents enjoy the Public Market every bit as much as tourists. They often shop at the Public Market, because they know they can find products of exceptionally fine quality at very reasonable prices.
