Fort Ward State Park, in the southwestern area of Bainbridge Island, Washington.
A wide path goes about 200 feet from the beach-front parking area to the fort.
My understanding is that bunkers such as the one shown here were built around 1910. Fort Ward, like other forts of its kind, was not visible to ships and had enormous retractable cannons.
Northwest Charm's focus is on the Pacific Northwest. But, we all "take a hankering" to travel afar, once in a while.
