Welcome to Kingston, Washington!

Locals refer to "this side of the water" and "the other side of the water", and the difference in life-styles (and real estate prices) between the two is profound.

If you're used to the hustle and bustle of urban life, the little, old-timey town of Kingston, Washington, and other nearby towns, will be a welcome change of pace.

For an inexpensive walking excursion to Kingston, hop aboard the ferry in Edmonds, about 45 minutes north of Seattle. After a short scenic ferry ride, walk off the ferry into Kingston. There are a few stores to browse around in, and several eateries/restaurants that cater to locals and tourists. You won't have to pay for your return trip, because no fare is collected for pededstrians boarding the ferry in Kingston.

It doesn't take long to "do up the town" in Kingston. So, I'd recommend that you drive your car onto the ferry. Kingston is a gateway to the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas. Give yourself plenty of time to explore!

For example, from Kingston, its only about a twenty-minute drive to Poulsbo's "Little Norway" (There are a couple of nice hotels in Poulsbo, by the way). From Poulsbo, drive about 15 or 20 minutes north to Port Gamble. Port Gamble is an authentic, beautifully preserved 19th century mill town.

From Port Gamble, you might want to visit Sequim (Famous for its sun-belt weather), Port Angeles, and Port Townsend.

I especially like Port Townsend. It's a Victorian-era seaport city with many quaint shops.
