Welcome to Keyport, Washington!
The naval bases at Keyport and Bangor are a wonderful asset to Kitsap County. I cannot speak highly enough of the personnel stationed in the area. They are our good friends and neighbors and they bring social and economic vitality to the region.
Cathryn and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Naval Undersea Museum at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, in Keyport. To mention just a few of the many interesting displays we saw: Antique diving bells and scuba gear, miniature submarines, and torpedoes built in the 1800's. Children and adults alike will enjoy the interactive displays.
Like many local secrets, the Whiskey Steak House appears unremarkable from the outside. But, people routinely drive twenty miles to get to this restaurant. It is ALWAYS full. Reservations are strongly recommended (But, on weekends and holidays they don't accept reservations. So, plan to wait about 45 minutes for a table).
On the other hand, you might enjoy waiting: Have a cocktail or select one of their fine beer offerings while you chat with friends and enjoy the restaurant's ambience.
To get there: On highway 3, between Silverdale and Poulsbo, you'll see an exit for Keyport. Follow the road east a few miles to its end. The entrance to the Navy base will come up on your right and you'll see a sign for the museum. If you pass the entrance to the Navy base, the Whiskey Creek Steak House will come up a short distance down the road, on your left.
