The pace of life is easy on this semi-rural island, with beautiful homes amidst the evergreen trees. There are forests and open fields and it is not unusual to see deer.

Bainbridge Islanders have quick access to all of Kitsap County and the Olympic Peninsula, via a bridge across gorgeous Agate Pass (pictured above), at the northern end of the island. When in the mood for some "city excitement," islanders hop on the ferry boat for a thirty-five minute ride to Seattle.

The island has occassionaly been referred to as a "bedroom community of Seattle" because many residents commute to work in Seattle (They enjoy sipping coffee and chatting with friends during the daily round-trip ferry ride).

But, Bainbridge Island has its own strong sense of identity which is deeply rooted in the island's history.

Favorite Local Activities include boating and fishing, horses, walks on forested trails, and bicycling: Bainbridge Island is home to the annual "Chilly Hilly" bicycle ride each February, with hundreds of participants. Bainbrige Island attracts many bicyclists all year round.

Bainbridge Island excels in the creative arts arena and is exceptionally strong in performing arts. While The Playhouse serves up live performances of "the classics", and grassroots foot-stompin' fun, with a more "folksy" flavour, can frequently be found at places such as the Island Center Hall, Seabold Hall, and Grange Hall. There is always something going on, every weekend throughout the year.

Locals enjoy shopping (Fox Paw!) as they know they can find exquisite and unique gift items in the island's stores.

Currently (2008) there are approximately 22,000 residents on Bainbridge Island. Consider that Manhattan Island and Bainbridge Island are roughly the same size. How many millions of people are on Manhattan?! Newcomers to Bainbridge Island are warmly received and soon develop a nodding acquaintance with familiar faces in town.

Hello from Joel Goller (BHS Class of '69). With my classmates at Bainbridge High, I stomped my feet on the old wooden stadium during football games. I have some good memories of our old three-story high school building.

My wife, Cathryn, and I reside in Poulsbo, now. We have a couple of acres and a managerie of pets.

Thank you for visiting Cathryn's and my website.
